When Relief Turns Risky: Navigating Narcotic Addiction in Pancreatitis Pain Management

If you’ve ever met someone who’s battled pancreatitis, you know the pain isn’t just bad—it’s the sort that knocks the wind out of you. Imagine a white-hot ache that radiates from deep inside, the kind that laughs at over-the-counter pills and demands something stronger. For many, that “something stronger” is a prescription opioid. But what starts as a lifeline can, all too easily, become a trap.

The Pain No One Sees

Pancreatitis—a gnarly inflammation of the pancreas—can be acute (think: sudden and severe) or chronic (long-term and relentless). Both can send pain levels through the roof. Sometimes it’s so bad people end up in the ER, desperate for relief. Doctors, not wanting to see anyone suffer, reach for what works: narcotics like morphine, hydrocodone, or oxycodone.

And who can blame them? Opioids work fast. They dull the pain enough for people to breathe, move, maybe even eat again. When you’re doubled over from pancreatitis, you take the relief wherever you can get it.

The Other Side of the Coin

But here’s the rub: opioids don’t just numb pain—they can also hijack the brain’s reward system. Over time, what starts as a medical necessity can morph into dependence, and for some, full-blown addiction. And pancreatitis patients are uniquely at risk. Their pain is chronic, the flare-ups unpredictable, and the temptation to preempt the next attack with another pill is always lurking.

Studies have found that people with chronic pancreatitis are prescribed opioids more frequently, and for longer periods, than almost any other chronic pain population. That means more chances for tolerance to build, more withdrawal symptoms if they try to stop, and more risk that the line between “needing” and “craving” blurs.

Why Is This So Common?

A few reasons:

  • Limited Alternatives: Non-opioid painkillers don’t always work for pancreatitis, and procedures like nerve blocks aren’t always available—or effective.
  • Stigma and Frustration: Patients often feel dismissed. When doctors hesitate to prescribe strong meds, some feel like their suffering isn’t being taken seriously.
  • Cycle of Pain: Chronic pain itself can cause anxiety and depression, which can fuel reliance on pain meds as a form of escape.

Rethinking Pain Management

So what’s the answer? It’s complicated, but a few strategies are showing promise:

  • Multidisciplinary Teams: Bringing together pain specialists, gastroenterologists, psychologists, and addiction experts to create a holistic plan.
  • Non-Opioid Meds & Therapies: Antidepressants, anticonvulsants, even certain anti-inflammatories can sometimes help. So can physical therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • Patient Education: The more patients know about the risks—and the alternatives—the more empowered they are to make safer choices.

A Balancing Act

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Pain from pancreatitis is real, and no one deserves to suffer needlessly. But the risks of narcotics are real too. The best care comes from doctors who listen, patients who feel heard, and a willingness to try new approaches—even when none of them are perfect.

If you or someone you love is struggling with pain management for pancreatitis, know this: you’re not alone, and there’s zero shame in needing help. Ask about alternatives. Push for a team approach. And don’t be afraid to speak up if you’re worried about dependence or addiction. The first step, as always, is talking about it.

Suffering With Pancreatitis: Kyli NEEDS Help

There is a sweet young lady who as I write this is in the hospital suffering with pancreatitis. She is young, she is in pain, she is on a J tube and from what she says is somewhat better but not doing real well. She has been in for quite sometime and is in need of help and you can help by praying. So if there are any Christians reading this post I ask you to pray for Kyli. Ask our Lord Jesus to heal her, surround her with His love, comfort and send His Angels to guard and protect her.

She has posted comments on this blog but I have not been able to publish them because they contain her email and I do not publish comment that contain private email addresses. Anyway ...

Please pray for her.

Kyli, if you are reading this post I want you to know I am gonna walk out on a limb and tell you what I would do. This is ONLY what I would do. YOU have to do what you feel is best for you and it sounds to me like your medical team is doing right by you as much as they can with orthodox medical protocols. With that said ...

IF it were me ...

I would ask the doctor WHY I have pancreatitis. He/she may not have a clue and may be totally in the dark in that respect. IF alcohol (binge or total alcoholic) is not the problem, I have no gallstones, my blood fat levels are normal, I am not diabetic (diabetes drugs cause AP), I can't point to some other drug as the problem, I did not suffer severe abdominal trauma (within the last year or two), no one else in my family has ever had pancreatitis (hereditary), I don't have or SOD has been ruled out, I'd ask if some weird autoimmune disease such as celiac, lupus, sjogren's or chron's may be causing it (there are many that cause pancreatitis - the list is long). Autoimmune disease can cause autoimmune pancreatitis and AIP responds to steroids.

In your last comment you mentioned they were gonna have you try to eat. Again, IF it were me I know that food is NOT my friend, especially if my pancreas is inflamed and this is where the medical team may not be up to speed. Red meat, pork, lamb, duck and ANYTHING made from those meats including soups and broths will make me sick again or sicker. Other than the fact they contain HIGH amounts of FAT (fat and alcohol are the enemy) I don't know WHY they make me sick they just do. OIL (any kind) is NOT good for an inflamed pancreas. I would NOT eat anything with any kind of oil or fat. That means nothing is to be cooked in oil, nothing is to be made with oil, butter, maragine or some other kind of fat. Now ...

I'd also ask the doc to give me 800mgs of Ibuprofen and why would I do that?

Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory drug. Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas. I'd also have someone go to the nearest health food store and buy me some pure (nothing else in it but vitamin c) grape seed extract (95% polyphenols); 100 mgs caps/tabs and enough of it to start taking 200mgs 3-4 times per day for an extended time period. I'd also have them buy pure curcumin caps 400 - 500 mg caps and I'd take those 3 times per day. Both grape seed extract and curcumin are HIGHLY anti-inflammatory. I'd also have them buy pure vit C (500mgs w/bioflavonoids). I'd take these because I know these work for me.

I'd also ask the doc if there were any reason I could NOT drink grapefruit juice. IF there are no drug interactions with grapefruit juice I'd ask for white, unsweetend grapefruit juice. I found that grapefruit juice stopped my acute pancreatitis attacks (around 1982-83) and helped start the healing process then in 2004 a research team found that grapefruit protected rats from pancreas damage due to pancreatitis. So even before science discovered grapefruit may be helpful the Lord my God led me to drink tons of grapefruit juice. I'd be following His directions again. He also led me to Ibuprofen on one bad night after my diagnosis when demerol would even touch my pain. Then ...

Jesus has risen
I came to find that it all made sense via science but He knew all along when nobody else did.

I'd do everything he taught me again because it works.

May our glorious Savior Jesus hold you in His arms, protect you, heal you and give you peace Kyli.

UPDATE 2/21/2013 Kyli Is Home

Those of you who prayed for Kyli I want you to know she is grateful and was released from the hospital. From her comments it sounded like she was a pretty sick lady and glory to God she is still with us and seems to be improving.

I just got a comment from her stating that she was released on January 18, is home, not feeling well yet. I'd have posted her comment but she keeps putting an email address in them and so to protect her privacy I can not publish it. However here's a short protion of it:

"They're still unsure what the cause is for me, so they're still labeling it as idiopathic. I forget if I told you but my ERCP showed a couple abnormal side branches and duct irregularities but nothing severe enough to call it CP. I did find out through my geneticist recently, however, that I have one of the Cystic Fibrosis genes ... only having one means that I'm a carrier, not that I actually have CF. I don't have any lung issues, etc, and ironically enough, my GI doc isn't even sure if this particular gene I have is even associated with CP so theyre looking into that for me! What a rollercoaster this has been! (It would be very bizarre for this to be genetic since I have never had pancreas issues prior to 4 months ago!)"

The docs don't know why she has it and of course the damage that showed on her ERCP wasn't "severe" enough to call it CP but I betcha she has CP or will have. Anyway ...

She isn't well yet. She still has her J Tube and can not tolerate any food to well however she did mention her pain is better so there seems to be some improvement since her release from the hospital.

Genetic Variants Associated With Various Types Of Pancreatitis

genetic variants cause pancreatitis

Genetic factors are a likely cause of various types of pancreatitis both acute and chronic. As more and more research is piled up the likelyhood becomes more of an apparent cause. Types of pancreatitis such as alcoholic pancreatitis, hereditary pancreatitis and pancreatitis caused Cystic Fibrosis are definitely linked to genetic variants. Pancreatitis by some systemic autoimmune diseases such as Lupus and Celiac Disease are definitely predisposed by genetic variants.

Listen while a doctor explains why your friend, family member or someone you know, who suffers pancreatitis, may not feel well due to the pain involved with pancreatitis.

If you think your friend, family member or co-worker is "malingering" or simply wants sympathy from you think again as this doctor explains that pancreatitis pain is worse than cancer.

He then explains some of the genetic factors that may cause pancreatitis and reasons genetics may be involved.

So the next time you think your family member or friend is "faking the pain" remember the above video and try to imagine pain that may entice you to blow your brains out and end it - you may then get the picture.

Genetic Variants Associated with Pancreatitis

Pancreatitis, both in its acute and chronic forms, has strong genetic underpinnings that can significantly influence disease development, progression, and severity. Recent research has identified several key genetic variants that play crucial roles in the pathogenesis of this condition.

Major Genetic Risk Factors:

1. PRSS1 (Protease Serine 1)

The PRSS1 gene, which encodes cationic trypsinogen, was one of the first genes identified in hereditary pancreatitis. Mutations in this gene can lead to premature activation of trypsinogen within the pancreas, causing tissue damage and inflammation. These mutations are particularly associated with hereditary pancreatitis, a rare but severe form of the disease that often presents in childhood.

2. SPINK1 (Serine Protease Inhibitor Kazal Type 1)

SPINK1 mutations affect the body's ability to prevent premature activation of pancreatic enzymes. While these mutations alone may not cause pancreatitis, they significantly increase susceptibility when combined with other genetic or environmental factors. Recent studies have shown that SPINK1 variants can act as disease modifiers, potentially accelerating disease progression.

3. CFTR (Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator)

CFTR variants, traditionally associated with cystic fibrosis, have been increasingly recognized as important risk factors for both acute and chronic pancreatitis. These mutations affect fluid secretion in the pancreatic ducts, leading to increased protein concentration and potential duct obstruction.

Disease Mechanisms and Interactions

Recent research has revealed that pancreatitis often results from complex interactions between multiple genetic variants rather than single gene mutations. This concept of "genetic risk factors" has led to a more nuanced understanding of disease development:

  1. Gene-Environment Interactions: Environmental factors such as alcohol consumption or smoking can significantly amplify the risk in individuals with genetic predisposition.

  2. Cumulative Risk: Multiple genetic variants can work synergistically to increase disease susceptibility and severity.

  3. Variable Penetrance: The same genetic variant can lead to different clinical presentations in different individuals, suggesting the importance of other modifying factors.

Clinical Implications

Understanding these genetic variants has important implications for clinical practice:

  1. Early Detection: Genetic testing can help identify high-risk individuals, particularly in families with a history of pancreatitis.

  2. Personalized Treatment: Knowledge of specific genetic variants can guide treatment decisions and help predict disease course.

  3. Preventive Strategies: Identification of genetic risk factors allows for targeted preventive measures, especially in terms of lifestyle modifications.

Future Directions

Current research is focusing on:

  • Identifying new genetic variants through genome-wide association studies
  • Understanding the interaction between different genetic variants
  • Developing targeted therapies based on specific genetic profiles
  • Improving risk prediction models incorporating genetic information

This evolving understanding of genetic variants in pancreatitis continues to reshape our approach to diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of this challenging con

This overview is based on recent research findings, particularly from 2023-2024 publications, and incorporates information from multiple peer-reviewed sources. The content emphasizes the complex interplay between different genetic variants and their clinical implications, which is crucial for both researchers and healthcare providers working in this field.

Pancreatitis Pain: How to Stop Pancreatitis Pain

pancreatitis pain
Pancreatitis pain can be mild to severe. I can personally tell you from experience that you do not want to experience the severe form of pancreatitis pain but I'll wager that if you are reading this blog post about pancreatitis pain that you've been there, done that.

I can remember one acute pancreatitis attack I was kneeling over the toilet when my wife came in (I was married at the time) and she asked me something, probably "what was I doing?"

I asked her "are my guts still inside me?"

I actually remember asking her that exact question but according to her I wasn't real coherent and obviously in severe pain so she got my ass into the car and she drove me to the ER.

This was just one of my many acute pancreatitis attacks and I can say, without doubt, you never want to experience severe pancreatitis pain. Sometimes it felt like something (remember Alien where that giant wormy thing pops out of peoples abdomens?) was trying gnaw a way out and explode from my abdomen.

Pancreatitis pain, especially when severe, is debilitating. Most people can't even phathom what it is like; however if you can imagine the pain associated with pancreatic cancer you are most likely close because pancreatic cancer patients often suffer from acute pancreatitis. So one could say pancreatitis pain is similar to pancreatic cancer pain, which may or may not be true.

Normal medical protocol is to treat pancreatitis pain with opiates such as demerol, morphine and morphine derivities. I've had demerol and it did absolutely nothing. It didn't even take the edge off my pancreatitis pain.

I've talked with several people who have had demerol for different types of pain. It was used years ago to reduce or eliminate pain from surgery and people who had experienced demerol told me it was a wonderful time for them. They flew high in the sky for an hour or two and felt nothing but pleasure.

I thought " how nice for them, isn't doing shit for me!"

I was diagnosed with acute and chronic pancreatitis in 1979.

It took 7 ER visits and half a dozen other doctors to finally figure out what was wrong with me. I don't want to go in to it in this article but let's just say I found out why doctors call their business a "practice."

I was sicker than a dying dog for several years. Then ...

I started drinking grapefruit juice.

I believe I started in early 1982 but get this ...

My acute pancreatitis attacks stopped.

My pancreatitis pain was far less severe and 30 years later I find research on the internet that specifically states that flavonoids, found in grapefruit juice, STOP acute pancreatitis in rats and actually protect their pancreas.  Ok ...

So maybe I am part rat!

All I know is that grapefruit juice stopped my acute pancreatitis and protected my pancreas long before it protected rats. You are most likely shakin' your head thinking this guys a nut so here - READ THIS! Scientists discovered in 2004 what I discovered in 1982, that unsweetened, white grapefruit juice stops acute pancreatitis but ...

At the time I thought it was my low fat diet and the drug called Robinul that my doctor had prescribed starting to kick in. I wasn't smart enough to realize that I'd been on that drug for about three (3) years already and it was most likely something else. Since my really low fat diet was new (within about 6 months) I just chalked it all up to the diet and the drug. But ...

The real winner was the grapefruit juice and ...

Unsweetend, white grapefruit juice can be found at any grocery store.

Fast forward about 12 years to 1994.

In 1994 I discovered antioxidants.

In fact I learned about several very special, highly anti-inflammatory antioxidants that are so powerful they literally stop pancreatitis pain and with diet allowed my pancreas to heal.

As it turns out the medical community stumbled upon my previous discovery as well and published the results of a study done by Pramod Kumar Garg, MD, DM, of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 2009. Dr. Garg states: "We are encouraged by our findings, as significant improvement was noted with antioxidants in respect to all the parameters of pain in this study. In addition, reduction in pain resulted in fewer man-days lost, thus providing functional employment gain to the patients. The findings should spur further research in this exciting area."

It took the good doctor 15 years more than me to figure out that certain, very powerful antioxidants help pancreatitis pain. Unfortunately the good doctor used antioxidants, such as selenium that can be toxic at high doses whereas I chose NON-toxic, highly anti-inflammatory antioxidants like grape seed extract, curcumin and vitamin C.

Taken in theraputic doses they will help to control pancreatitis pain and with an anti-inflammatory diet for pancreatitis you may heal like I did and enjoy some pain free years.

Is it worth a shot to change your diet and try some supplements?

If you said yes, then go get the supplements.

You can get grape seed, curcumin, vitamin C, pancreatic enzymes and a muti vitamin/mineral formula at any good health store. Just make sure that the vitamin C, grape seed and curcumin are "stand alone" products. You don't want grape seed, curcumin or vitamin C that is mixed with a bunch of other crap that could be toxic when taken in large amounts.

Ibuprofen for Acute Pancreatitis

Ibuprofen for acute pancreatitis
Let's disccuss Ibuprofen for acute pancreatitis.

I take Ibuprofen for acute pancreatitis.

I take it ONLY for attacks of acute pancreatitis.

It is not a daily regimen because Ibuprofen is NOT a safe drug. Actually there are no safe drugs. A Big Pharma company could take something as safe as vitamin C and create a drug that would kill you so anytime you are dealing with a Big Pharma drug there is risk.

With acute pancreatitis there is a lot of risk.

Risk that it will escalate in to necrotizing pancreatitis (necrosis with infection), organ failure, bleeding, shock and/or death. Severe AP with complications poses a mortality risk of up to 40%.

There is also a small risk with Ibuprofen and you need to be aware of the risk. It has been known to increase blood pressure, cause bleeding, organ damage, stroke and heart attack but the risk is small with approximately 2300 kidney injuries and zero deaths over a 17 year study. Compare that to 2500 yearly deaths from acute pancreatitis, a myriad number of disabilities and a miserable quality of life.

Why Use Ibuprofen for Acute Pancreatitis?

I use Ibuprofen because the risks are definitely outweighed by the benefits. The biggest one (benefit) of which is that 800mgs of Ibuprofen will stop an acute pancreatitis attack where NOTHING else but other NSAIDs (aspirin, naproxen, etc) will.

When you cut out all the medical bullshit acute pancreatitis boils down to this ...

Inflammation.

Nothing that the medical community does in the ER stops an acute attack within 90 minutes.  It takes them days! They are slower than shit going up a rough tree!

They first try to determine whether or not you are having an acute attack. That is assuming you have already been there done that, have the pancreatitis hall of pain t-shirt and they (your local ER team) have actually recognized pancreatitis and it is in your records. So while they are fiddling around trying to determine what's wrong, your pancreas is eating itself and you are sustaining damage. Now
...

When they come to the conclusion you are having another acute pancreatitis attack they do what?

doctors use drugs that cause acute pancreatitis
They give you an opiate for pain.

Opiates only "mask" the pain.  What is worse is that opiates are a known CAUSE of acute pancreatitis. And doctors give opiates for pancreatitis pain? Go figure huh?

So IF they work how do opiates work?

They trick your brain!

Yep, opiates trick the brain into believing you don't hurt and most will take you on a pleasure cruise to exotic locations, or so I have heard.  Frankly ...

Demerol didn't do it for me, no pain relief, no pleasure cruise.

The sad thing, like I said a couple sentences up, is that opiates also CAUSE acute pancreatitis.

That is fact!  But ...

Even IF the opiates work for you "masking" the pain is not even close to the same thing as dealing with the inflammation which when eliminated also eliminates the pain.

Why does relieving the inflammation also relieve the pain?

In the case of pancreatitis, eliminating the inflammation deactivates the enzymes. You see those enzymes are NOT suppose to activate until they reach your small intestine. However when your pancreas becomes inflamed, for whatever reason, those enzymes can activate early while still inside the pancreas. The inflammation causes the enzyme activation. And ...

That is why once the inflammation is resolved the enzymes deactivate, they quit devouring your pancreas and the pain disappears.

Anti-inflammatories are considered to be minor to moderate pain relievers because they relieve headache pain, arthritis pain and so on but who is to say the reason they eliminate pain in those conditions as well is not due to the fact that they have eliminated the cause of the pain which is inflammation?

Pancreatitis pain can be mild.

Pancreatitis pain can be moderate. But ...

When demerol (used for moderate to severe pain) won't even take the EDGE off the pain I wouldn't call that minor or moderate pain, would you?

Doctors treat symptoms.

I prefer to go after the CAUSE because ...

While the ER doc is shooting your ass up with pain meds to treat your pain your pancreatic enzymes are still chewing up your pancreas. The inflammation is still there. It has NOT been addressed! In fact the opiates can cause MORE inflammation and CAUSE another bout of acute pancreatitis. Oh sure, they figured out that you should not eat and take away your food.

Whoopie!

doctors ignore the obvious inflammation treatment
Any moron could conclude that fact, since ingesting food tells the pancreas to produce enzymes, and then when your pain resolves 2 - 5 days later they want you to bow, pay homage and do the happy dance because they saved your life. Your pancreas is frickin fried and almost useless but hey
they stopped your pain and saved your life! They are like ...

   ... gods!

NOT!

They are imbiciles!

They let your pancreas devour itself.

IF they had the brains God gave a goose they would have figured out that anti-inflammatories were indeed the answer!

Ibuprofen
WHY? (I hear you asking)

What is pancreatitis?

Did you say inflammation? (Correctamundo!)

What eliminates inflammation?

Did you say anti-inflammatory type medications? (Correctamundo!)

See! Did you notice that this pancreatitis pain and inflammation issue isn't really a difficult dilemma such as solving quantum teleportation?! But ...

There is the issue of money.

IF you knew that $.30 worth of Advil would accomplish more than a $1500.00 - $10,000.00 ICU visit which would you choose?

Exactly! And ...

I would hate to think that money, cash flow, cabbage, bread, c-notes, ben franklins could be the reason doctors do not tell you about Ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory medications for pancreatitis such as the powerful drug Toradol (only by prescription and way more side effects) but money (or it's loss) may be exactly why you don't know about the fact that Ibuprofen will stop an acute pancreatitis attack.

Heck, I don't sell Ibuprofen. It's cheap and you can get it at any grocery store. I have no vested interest in telling you how I stop my acute pancreatitis attacks. Ok, sure ...

If you buy some grape seed or curcumin and or other products from one of my site (this blog) I might make $.44 (44 cents)  up to a whole $1 or $2 IF you really get extravagant and buy several bottles but do the math! Amazon pays affiliates a whole huge 1% in this category (health and beauty). At about $.44 per bottle I'd have to sell 500 bottles per day to make any kind of money! And trust me on this it ain't even CLOSE! I think my record day has been like 5 bottles, wow, $2.20! But ...

I ain't doing this for money which is a good thing cuz I'd starve! So ...

IF any of you reading this site on pancreatitis THINK I'm just a snake oil salesman trying to take advantage of some desperate people well ...

You need to think again because this is NOT my dream, lotto winning, money niche.

I have pancreatitis.

I know what the pain of pancreatitis is like and I hate to see people suffer more than they actually need to or be butched by some surgeon IF it could have been prevented with $.30 (30 cents) worth of Ibuprofen! So ...

acute pancreatitis
IF you think for one minute I am simply trying to take advantage of your pain and suffering you, my friend, can kiss my white ass and go somehwere hot!

The FDA can kiss my white ass!

The FTC can kiss my white ass too!

I stumbled upon what works for me which is to say God showed me what works and I am simply passing it along so that you may have the knowledge as well.

I can tell you this, the night I was in an excruciating acute pancreatitis attack and the demerol didn't do its job. I started rumaging through the medicine cabinet and found my wife's 800mg Motrin tablets and they said "take for pain" and I was in PAIN and after taking one I was no longer in pain that ...

When I told Dr. Langdon what traspired he was dang sure O.K. with writing a script for me! But then he was one cool and very good doctor. But ...

There is risk with Ibuprofen and similar NSAIDs.

Aspirin is somewhat different because unlike Ibuprofen (the risk is small) aspirin doesn't cause heart attacks where Ibuprofen has been know to do so. Aspirin can and does cause bleeding in some people, so does Ibuprofen and this can be life threatening as well. But ...

Again the risk is small; however, if you have an adverse reaction from either Ibuprofen (or another NSAID) or aspirin please remember I have told you it could happen and I have also told you that if you do what I do - you do it at your own risk.

If you should die please don't tell me because I will feel absolutely horrible.

I have no idea why God showed me the way.

I have no idea why he saved me (even the doc said I should have been dead) because ..

I'm an asshole.

I've been an asshole my whole life. But ...

He helped me find Dr. Langdon who listened and had the brains to recognize my condition and confirm it via tests. He helped me discover Ibuprofen. He led me to white, unsweetened grapefruit juice which actually stopped my acute pancreatitis attacks and by that I mean - they just stopped after I started drinking grapefruit juice. Then ...

He helped me discover grape seed extract and curcumin and put together my regimen that along with my diet (which God also helped with - I mean who would think of doing enemas to completely cleanse their system before starting their food diary?) allowed me to actually heal.

Angel of the Lord
So why me when so many others have so much more damage and are in so much more pain?

I don't have a clue.

I can think of tons of reasons why He should have simply let me die a very painful death but did He?

No!

He saved me.

He had His Angels protect me.

He showed me how to survive and now ...

I'm passing what He taught me along to you only because He told me to tell you what He taught me.

I could care less where you buy your grapefruit juice, grape seed extract, curcumin, vitamin C, pancreatic enzymes, multi-vitamin/mineral formula or Ibuprofen (advil, motrin). Get them at your local health store or your grocery store or where ever, just get them and try them.

Use my AP cocktail to stop an acute pancreatitis attack.

Use my pancreatitis diet prep and journal to develop your own personal, specific diet, or the the diet I use, and daily regimen of supplements to heal.

Avoid all dubious information on the net, especially if they ask you to buy some frickin' book they wrote after their father died of pancreatitis. IF they knew what I know their father may still be alive and well! And my info is frickin' FREE! You can spend all day at my site, learn everything you need to know and the info won't cost you one thin dime.

A few of you who follow my info have said I should write a book.

I don't want to write a book and get paid.

God didn't charge me.

He GAVE me everything.

The least I can do is to try to return His kindness in the same fashion.

I would like to know if the info helps you. If you find releif or better yet healing; I'd like to know. I don't want a bunch of rah, rah ...

I just would like to know if you feel better. And ...

If you do, thank and praise God, not me.

Try Ibuprofen and my coctail for resolution of your next acute pancreatitis attack and try to have a pain free day!

How to STOP an Acute Pancreatitis Attack in 90 Minutes or Less ...

stop acute pancreatitis

Would you like to know HOW to stop an acute pancreatitis attack in 90 minutes or less?

If you have been diagnosed with pancreatitis chances are you have had an acute pancreatitis attack, experienced the pancreatitis pain and realize that acute pancreatitis is no fun at all.

I stumbled upon the way to resolve the pain and eliminate the inflammation so that an acute pancreatitis attack resolves in 60 - 90 minutes.

I was given demerol at the ER once and the doctor who diagnosed me gave me demerol (an opiate) in tablet form for pain but ...

Demerol did NOTHING!

What STOPPED the pain?

Ibuprofen.

Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory.

What is pancreatitis?

It is an INFLAMMATION of the pancreas.

Using common sense how would one resolve that inflammation?

Anti-inflammatories!

Stop Acute Pancreatitis with Anti-Inflammatory Regimen

To STOP, not just relieve, but STOP your acute pancreatitis attack take anti-inflammatory type medication, NOT opiates. Opiates do nothing to resolve the cause of the pain which is inflammation and the fact that your pancreatic enzymes are devouring your own pancreas! The sooner you resolve the inflammation the better! Now ...

Chances are your doctor has no idea how to STOP an acute pancreatitis attack other wise he would have prescribed 800mgs of Ibuprofen or Toradol via IV and told you to do what I do myself to STOP an acute pancreatitis attack. However it wouldn't hurt to ask him for a prescription for 800mgs of Ibuprofen. If ...

He is like most dumbass doctors I have met he'll say no because he doesn't know shit about pancreatitis or this type of regimen protocol. When they do not know about something or there has not been a study that has been published in a medical journal you can damn well guarantee his brain will not compute the common sense of using an anti-inflammatory to eliminate pancreas inflammation.

I KNOW!

It is rediculous! But ...

Doctors are educated idiots which means STUPID!

They are stupid because:

  • They don't know they are stupid
  • They think they know everything but they are really stupid
  • They think they are God which proves they are stupid
  • They won't listen to a lay person (non-doctor) because there is no way that someone who has not gone to medical school could be more intelligent, which again proves they are stupid!
In order to combat this stupidity and save your ass you may have to pop over to the store and pick up some Advil or generic Ibuprofen. It usually comes in 200mg tabs which means you take FOUR (4) at once in order to achieve an 800mg dose.
  • (4) Four Advil
  • (4) Grape seed extract caps (100mg each)
  • (2) Curcumin caps (500mg each)
That little cocktail should stop your acute pancreatitis attack in less than 90 minutes.

NOTE: IF the cocktail does NOT resolve the pain and AP in 90 minutes you need to call an ambulance or get your ass to the hospital in some way because you obviously have some complications that need to be addressed FAST!

I wish you good luck and less pain!

P.S. I never seem to get everything said at one time so this had ben added to my orginal post and it is important! IF ...

You are nauseated and/or puking you need to resolve that first otherwise the cocktail to stop acute pancreatits will most likely come right back up and never get the chance to work. You NEED to keep it down for at least 60 minutes! So ...

Take your nausea meds FIRST! One phenergan suppository and a compazine tab. More if needed! If you don't have nausea meds (compazine, phenergan, preferrably BOTH) get your doc to prescribe them. They are essential. Once your nausea resolves take the cocktail. Of course if you don't have nausea you can take the cocktail at the first sign of an acute pancreatitis attack and take the nausea meds too as an added safe guard. You do not want to puke after you take the cocktail!

Pancreatitis Pain and the Enema bag

I have been holding off on this home remedy for pancreatitis pain simply because it is embarrassing, gross and not real fun for most people but an enema may help relieve your pancreatitis pain.

The reason cleansing your intestinal tract helps is simple; it gets rid of the offending food items or at least a lot of it. It isn't to expensive either. What's the cost of an enema bag and nozzel? You have water on hand and so simply flush out your intestinal tract and you may see the pain resolve. By the way ...

It is a good thing to cleanse your colon every now and then but you don't need to buy some hokey-pokey concotion or use those dangerous to the kidneys phosphate cleansers they have you take before a colonoscopy. Just an enema bag and some warm water works like a charm and ...

If you arch your back and let that water seep into your small intestines (yep it is hard to hold'er in for awhile to let that water drain deep inside) you'll flush out even more of the offending foods.

I bet you are wondering how I know this right? Well, if you recall it took some time for me to get diagnosed and I was in agony on to many occassions so I'd do almost anything to help relieve the pain, nausea and so forth and a man can get quite resourceful when times dictate improvisation. Anyway ...

I found that cleansing my system with water until she ran clear would eliviate my symptoms. You may or may not want to give it a try but I can tell you this a series of enemas is necessary to properly prepare for your next journey which is doing a pancreatitis food diary - so go buy an enema bag if you don't already have one and get prepared for some kinky bathroom time because if you don't do this step your food diary will not be as successful as it needs to be.

My Pancreatitis Regimen May NOT Work For You?

My Pancreatitis Regimen can be found outlined: here But ...

It may NOT work for you. It works extremely well for me but since everyone is different it may not work for you, however ...

UNLESS you have extensive damage and have cysts, most of your pancreas removed due to surgery for necrotizing pancreatitis (even someone with this kind of damage has experienced benefit) or a blockage in your pancreatic duct or some other weird, unfortunate circumstance such as pancreas divisum I would guess that 70% who actually do EXACTLY what I do will realize benefit.

I've had people tell me ALL my life that things I DO won't work or work for them. Let me tell you an "off topic" story as an example:

Years ago, while I was general sales manager of a small town car dealership I was holding a sales/training meeting in the conference room and was teaching telephone prospecting. Now, since I had come to that dealership brand new to the area and yet my first month had people walking in ASKING for me and buying cars and trucks you might think the morons (many had watch me sell cars my first month) in my class would easily accept what I taught but did they?

Oh no!

I had several tell me that what I was teaching WOULD NOT WORK!

So, I told Doug to slide the phone book to me, along with the phone. Then I gave the phone book to the first one who said it wouldn't work and asked them to pick a page in the book and I'd call some names.

"Pick a page, any of the white pages" I said.

Once he had done that I grabbed the phone and started calling. The whole sales crew watched and listened.

I made 5 calls and then asked the next person to pick a page and again I made 5 calls. Then I went to the next person and had them pick a page and I made 5 more calls and then I moved to the next and so on ...

I made 30 calls and kept my sales people along with the dealer in that conference room while I made those 30 calls.

Out of those 30 calls ...

1) I made 7 hard appointments (23%)
2) I received 2 referrals (good prospects to call)
3) Verified 30 names and addresses (mailing list follow up)
4) Introduced myself to 30 new, potential prospects (now or future)

So, as they all, including the dealer, looked at me like I was an alien I continued to explain the reason it wouldn't work for them is because ...

1) They never did it before or
2) Wouldn't try it or
3) If they did do it before it was only a variation of what I did, said, etc and NOT what I did EXACTLY the WAY I did it.

It is true, we are all different, unique but ...

Pancreatitis is NOT unique.

Pancreatitis is Pancreatitis.

There may be many reasons you have pancreatitis that vary from why I have pancreatitis. You may have pancreatitis due to gallstone obstruction or alcoholism or high blood fats or a toxic drug or pancreas divisum. Your damage may be different than mine. You may be older, younger, have more hair, maybe a different color of skin and eyes but let me ask you ...

Are you human?

Do you have pancreatitis?

If so, there is a very good chance that what I do will work for you as well because the basic disease or condition, pancreatitis, is pancreatitis. Pancreatitis hasn't changed, it hasn't mutated, there isn't a super pancreatitis that has become immune to certain alternative treatment and ...

If the disease is the same, you are human and I am human and we both have the same condition, pancreatitis, is it a reasonable assumption that if YOU did EXACTLY what I do that you just might possibly find relief?

I have an idea as to the answer but you need to draw your own conclusions. I'm no doctor, hell, I didn't even go to college or University. I'm just a guy who was diagnosed with pancreatitis, told I may live maybe another 10 years and am alive and pain free 22 years later than the prognosis.

If any of you folks reading this blog have questions be sure to ask in the comment section. I'll answer to the best of my knowledge which is limited.

Also if any of you have a story about how you became pain free, please share it with us in the comment section of any post you like that is relevant to that comment.

Food and Pancreatitis: Got Pancreatitis Pain? No Food!

I am finding I am different than most people who suffer from Pancreatitis pain, whether acute or chronic.

In previous posts I mentioned NOT eating when you have pancreatitis pain. In fact I said nothing by mouth except water until the pain resolves.

That didn't mean noodles, rice cakes, tomatoes, Ensure, or jello were good to eat when pain was present.

That meant I eat nothing, nada, zip, not one damn thing except vitamin C, grape seed extract, curcumin and water until the pain resolves and then ...

Once the pain has been gone for at least 72 hours (3 days) juice such as V8 low sodium could be consumed (it is loaded with nutrients) or if you have a juicer create your own veggie juice using tomatoes, spinach, watercress, beets, celery and garlic. Then ...

If you have no symptoms on juice for another 48 - 72 hours then try small amounts of food such as brown rice and veggies to see how things go.

I never once mentioned that drinking Ensure was a good thing. It contains milk and/or milk solids such as whey (FAT), canola and corn oil. Did I mention OIL is NOT good? If you want to continue having pain drink Ensure.

What CP victims need to understand is that food is NOT your friend and most foods that normal people eat will do nothing but piss-off your pancreas.

You will most likely NOT die from starvation in one week - it usually takes much longer to die from lack of food and ANYTHING with fat or dairy should be avoided - when you have pain. When you have pain ALL food should be avoided - period.

BIG NOTE: If it is NOT VEGETABLE or FRUIT or freshly cooked whole grain in origin it is not good to consume until your pancreas has healed.

That means nothing that is processed.

Processed foods (prepackaged) all contain ingredients and ...

I don't care what the label says regarding fat content, it could say fat free but the ingredients say OIL (palm, coconut, peanut etc) and that is NOT fat free.

OIL is fat.

Margarine is fat.

Milk is fat.

Milk solids contain fat.

ALL meat contains fat.

Broth, unless totally veggie in origin, contains fat.

Fat is the enemy.

Alcohol is the enemy. And ...

If you are currently experiencing pain FOOD is the enemy.

The pancreas needs to "rest" until the pain resolves and has been resolved for at least 72 hours (3 days).

That could mean a WEEK without food.

Whatever it takes.

Unless you are diabetic or have some underlying metabolic problem fasting should not be a problem in fact it is the ONLY good thing that doctors do in the hospital for Pancreatitis patients - they take away the food.

Got pain?

NO food!

I have went weeks on only veggie juice (when I was really sick) and I mean AFTER the pain resolved yet I still did not feel well.

People with CP (Chronic Pancreatitis) need to learn that food is NOT your friend, especially when you have pain. Pain should tell you that your pancreas is NOT happy. If you keep pushing food onto your pancreas, when you already have pain, you will eventually pay and the price could be high.

Acidosis: A Potential Complication of Pancreatitis?

Acidosis appears to be a potential complication of Pancreatitis and in all my research not ONCE have I seen any authoritative site (medical) mention this possibility, acidosis as a complication, so I am going to give credit where credit is due and tell you that a fellow Squidoo member and pancreatitis sufferer who goes by the Squidoo handle of jopalei is to be credited with this discovery.

It appears that those who have suffered large amounts of damage and have diabetes as a result, compromised kidneys, liver, and/or lungs (possibly due to pancreatic enzymes traveling through the blood stream during an acute pancreatitis episode and damaging organs) or those who suffer with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) due to diabetes or pancreas damage without diabetes may be those who are at most risk.

Shock, which can occur during an acute pancreatitis episode is also a cause of acidosis and so is aspirin poisoning.

Since aspirin may cause acidosis it may be more prudent to use Ibuprofen for Panctreatitis Pain, especially if you already have complications such as diabetes, hypoglycemia or compromised organs. And because of this fact I am going to definitely re-think my position on using aspirin for stopping acute pancreatitis. In fact, I am going to say it again ...

It may be prudent, in light of the fact that aspirin can cause acidosis, to use Ibuprofen for stopping pancreattitis pain. And again ...

Thank you jopalei for bringing this potential risk to my attention.

Overcoming Pancreatitis Pain in Children

Nothing is more difficult for a parent than to watch their child suffer in agony and so I'll tell you what I would do if it were my child in pain due to pancreatitis.

Since we both know that pancreatitis can turn ugly fast it would be a good thing to move quickly and resolve that flare or acute attack.

This is only what I would do.

You have to do what you think is best.

If it were my child in pain I'd give the regimen I use to stop the pain a try with some revisions.

1) Since young children should not be given aspirin I'd check with my doc to find out how much Ibuprofen (motrin, advil) I could safely give my child based on age and weight.

I might also check with a pharmacist to verify.

If I were to check out the link to Ibuprofen and scroll down to over dose I'd see the amount necessary to cause problems in humans.

Problems can arise at 100mgs/kg so adjust accordingly.

1 kilogram = 2.20462262 pounds.

You can get liquid flavored Ibuprofen as Ibuprofen or Advil for kids at the drug store (Walgreens etc ...).

2) Grapeseed extract comes in capsules that most likely are difficult for young children to swallow so I'd want to break one open and add it to a clear juice, like maybe apple juice and have my child drink it fron a sippy cup. Now the dosage is another challenge and I would guess using the ONE milligram per pound of body weight guidline for optimum saturation a 10 pound child would only need 10 - 15 milligrams.

The problem lies in finding 10 or 15 milligram capsules. One way is to break open the capsule and guess at 10-15 mgs. I sincerely doubt more would harm them.

I thought liquid grapeseed extract might work better so I may try to locate some liquid grapeseed extract, not oil, just liquid grape seed extract and make sure it isn't combined with or "tinctured" with alcohol or anything such as vinilla extract (contains alcohol) for flavor enhancement.

3) Curcumin. I'd also see if there were some 100mg curcumin capsules available. That way you could break one open and give it mixed in some juice with the grape seed extract. The only liquid curcumin I found was mixed with alcohol and vinilla extract - BOTH - are big NO-NO's so that may not be a possible option. I may have to use 500mg caps and wing it by breaking one open and splitting it into 5 somewhat equal shares (using a blade of some sort and a small mirror to create the eqaul shares).

I would imagine that the grape seed extract and curcumin is going to taste pretty foul so chances are my child is gonna hate the stuff which may be the biggest challenge of all and that's why disguising it in some way (juice) may be a marginal solution.

If my child is old enough to swallow capsules easily that solves the problem of taste (looking over shoulder to see if my kid is old enough) but either way it is, in my opinion, essential to stop the pain and inflammation as quickly as possible to avoid more pancreatic damage.

IF the pain and nausea doesn't completely resolve within 60-90 minutes after giving him or her the cocktail then it's off to the ER we go! Time is tissue. Save the tissue.

Coffee and Pancreatitis

coffee-pancreatitisMany Pancreatitis victims believe that their Pancreatitis pain is exasperated by coffee or the caffiene in coffee but that is NOT true. I have known it to be an untruth simply because I have drank coffee PROFUSELY for the entire 30 + years I have been living with Pancreatitis.

Again, as I have mentioned in earlier posts, patients and doctors alike have erroneous beliefs when it comes to Pancreatitis triggers, especially when it comes to a Pancreatitis diet and an immediate course of action to prevent damage from an episode of Acute Pancreatitis.

Coffee is NOT a trigger in fact there is scientific research that not only disputes coffee as a Pancreatitis trigger but goes so far as to say coffee can prevent or reduce the risk of Pancreatitis.

The difference between what I share with you and what others may say is that I can almost ALWAYS back up my opinions and theories with scientific evidence that either suggests or proves I am or may be correct.

This disease or condition of ours is so volatile, one minute you are fine, the next you are sick, that it is difficult to correlate Pancreatitis triggers to symptoms that may present due to something that has been ingested up to a week prior. It is absolutely erroneous to believe that ALL triggers create an immediate effect because they DO NOT!

What triggers an immediate (within hours) response one day may trigger a response the next time it is ingested 72 hours later and the patient and/or doctor will incorrectly believe that something that was eaten on the day of pain is the offending food or drink.

If you are eating red meat, pork, lamb, or any combination including any parts of either which are used in something that should be for all intents and purposes safe, such as smoked turkey sausage which is cased in pork intestines, and you MISS the part about pork casing (like I did) YOU WILL GET SICK! But ...

pork-pancreatitis
It may NOT be an immediate response.

Mine wasn't to the smoked turkey cased in pork intestines. It took 3 days and I became supper ill eating BEANS and RICE!

I KNEW beans and rice were NOT triggers and so I dug out the turkey sausage container and re-read everything. That is when I found "Pork Casings" on the package. I knew then I had poisoned myself, unintentionally, and I was sicker than a dog for about 3 weeks!

My Acute Pancreatitis episode was caused by the pork casings NOT the beans and rice. That is why you need to use a food diary to track what it is that actually is responsible for your episodes of pain and sickness.

By doing so I can guarantee you will find that a lot of what you believe to be true is in fact erroneous and if you wish to become pain free you can adjust your thinking, you diet and begin using the supplements I use and most likely, after time, begin to feel much better than you do right now.

Or you can simply reject what I am telling you and continue to suffer.

It is ALL up to you.

I can only lead you to the river (pain free living), I can not make you drink of the cool, healing waters!

Frequently Asked Pancreatitis Questions

These Pancreatitis Questions are taken from the keyword phrases that people have used to find my site and not questions that have been directly asked of me; However, If people are using them for search they obviously want answers, don't ya think?

1) Vitamins, minerals and supplements for pancreatitis?

The best vitamin-mineral formulation I have found is called All In One. It uses mostly, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants from plant sources. It also has a full complement of amino acids and mixes easily in my orange juice. It is also gluten free.

The others are of course grape seed extract, vit C and curcumin. The grapeseed extract, vit C and curcumin seem to fight the inflammation. Well they don't seem to, they do! And they are all 3 very strong cancer fighters as well.

2) Does turmeric and garlic cause pancreatitis?

In a nut shell NO.

In fact there is begining to be quite a bit of research available on the Net from scholars (PubMed) that indicate curcumin, the curcuminoid found in turmeric, definitely relieves Pancreatitis pain.

Garlic is another highly anti-inflammatory little gem. It is also a cancer fighter and an antimicrobial. So it has the added benefit of protecting the pancreas for sufferers by helping to ward off bugs that might cause infection.

3) Can someone with pancreatitis have cough syrup?

I don't see why not as long as it does NOT contain alcohol. Make sure you read the label and if you have any reservations about a product ask a pharmacist for their input as to alcohol content.

4) True pancreatitis cures?

There are none. There is NO cure for pancreatitis. I have found a regimen (diet and supplements) that have enabled me to be pain free for a long time. But that doesn't mean for one minute I am cured. I know this to be true because I had been pain free for years and made a bad mistake (I missed "pork casings" on a label) and was sicker than a dog for about 3 weeks. So if you are looking for a cure, you'll be looking for a long time.

5) Pancreatitis can I still drink beer?

Does beer contain alcohol?

Oh it does?

Then beer is out!

NO alcohol- period!

6) Is jack fruit bad for pancreatitis?

This one I frickin' had to look up lol. Jack fruit is common in southeast asia, Indonesia and other places but I have never eaten it. Quite honestly it never looked to good. Even though I looked it up to see if I could find something about it's properties, I found little. What I was looking for is to see if it was similar to avocado and full of fat. I did NOT find what I was seeking so I must admit - I have no idea.

If Jack Fruit is an oily, high fat fruit like the avocado, be very careful. The avocado has beneficial omegea 3 oil and is even an anti-inflammatory food but if you are sick (experiencing pain etc...) it is a food to stay away from until you may be able to tolerate a small amount. Avocado can be a 2 edged sword. See my Pancreatitis Diet info section for more details.

7) Pancreatitis pizza?

As far as I know there is NO such thing as a pizza that is safe for a Pancreatitis diet. They are full of fat from meat, cheese and oil. Even if you get a "veggie pizza" the crust is FULL of oil from cooking (pizza hut, dominoes, etc)and it's topped with cheese.

If you made a home made pizza from scratch and left out everything that contained fat it wouldn't really be a pizza but it may help you curb your craving for one. You could try "soy cheese" and bake it without using oil.

8) If i already have cronic pancreatitis can i get a pre payment plan for private health care?

Great question.

I called an insurance broker after I was diagnosed and asked. At that time "Pancreatitis" was uninsurable for both health plans and life plans. I do not know if the "uninsurable" stipulation has changed.

9) Can pancreatic infection kill you?

Yes, in fact necrosis and infection in combination, necrotizing pancreatitis, is quite deadly. It is something you do not want.

10) Pancreatitis at what age does it strike?

Pancreatitis seems to be a fully discrimination free killer as far as age is concerned. It can victimize children and older adults. Supposedly it strikes mainly between the ages of 30 - 40 but don't count on it. I first started having symptoms at 16 and was finally diagnosed at 24 or 25. However old I was in 1979 at time of diagnosis. There are people whose stories I have read about who were as young as 2 years old!

11) WHY does water make me puke?

12) What does chronic pancreatitis do to my longevity?

I'll do more later.

Two Examples of BAD Pancreatitis Information ...

Here is an example of horrible information online for pancreatitis pain and diet: http://pancreatitissupport.com/
__________________________________________________

There are certainly some very tough situations for some people. Recently heard from M who wrote about not being able to afford ER support for a recent flare of pancreatitis. M wrote:

“I was first diagnosed with Pancreatitis just before my wedding in August of 2010. The only relief was my week in the ER on fluids in my IV and a serious of pain and sleeping pills.
Now I have a horrible flair up and can’t afford to go to the ER for another week as I am still paying on the old bills.
Does it help to eat the yogurt/jello while you have it or do you have to stop all food intake until the pain subsides? This just doesn’t feel like it would be healthy at all.
I think my sickness must come from a combination of alcohol, food, and stress.
Any suggestions?”

Firstly M, we think you should do whatever you can to seek medical assistance as soon as humanly possible. Is it possible for you to see your general practitioner prior to going to the ER? Limiting food intake is the usual initial treatment but as you allude – it can be difficult and you also want to ensure nutrition (and most importantly ensure that you are keeping well hydrated). You should attempt to keep water intake. Yoghurt might not be the best thing due to the fat content. Definitely low fat variety and even then probably only small amounts. Try a small amount and see how it goes. Also, some mashed potatoes, pumpkin/other vegetables might be worth a go. As you’ll see in the interview with dietitian, sometimes some hospital grade sustagen or similar product could be helpful.
Please try to obtain some medical assistance and let us know how you get on!
All the best
Jenny

Nice shiny website but the info is dangerous.

The ONLY thing good is that the poor woman who is suffering is told to get medical care as soon as possible.

The woman should NOT eat - period.

She should keep hydrated with water and they did say that but they are also telling her to eat to simply placate her instead of telling her to stop eating, quit drinking alcohol and take an anti-inflammatory to relieve the inflammation.

By the time she goes to the hospital, because she can't afford it, she could be in very serious trouble or even dead!

Well at least they didn't tell her to have a damn steak!

Geeeez! I hope nobody buys their book!

Here's another site that is dangerous as far as a pancreatitis diet and it is from a medical center for gawd sakes: Medical Center

Scroll down to Nutrition and Supplements.

They do mention grapeseed extract which is great but notice where it says to eat fewer red meats and more lean meats?

It should say NO red meat!

No pork

No lamb

And the ONLY lean meats that should be in a pancreatitis diet are turkey, chicken, quail, pheasant, grouse (all without skin), and fish.

Good Lord! It's no wonder so many people with pancreatitis never see a resolution to their pain. The information out there is deplorable!

Immediate Action Saves Pancreas From Acute Pancreatitis

Take Immediate Action to Save Your Pancreas From Acute Pancreatitis

Once you make the decision to use the two regemins, both the one I use to stop Acute Pancreattits pain in less than 90 minutes and the daily one that relieves Chronic Pancreatitis pain which consist of diet and supplements go to your nearest good health food store and get what you need. Or get them here: Pancreatitis supplements

1) Quality vitamin C (with bioflavonoids)
2) Grape Seed Extract (at least 85% proanthocyanidins)
3) Curcumin (95% curcuminoids)
4) Enzymes with pancreatin 4X
5) A quality Multi-Vitamin-Mineral formula

Buy the supplements today. The sooner you buy them and take them the sooner you will see some relief. Remember ...

Time is of the essence.

Delay increases the risk of more pancreatic damage.

Get the supplements, change your diet (to what I do) and never touch another drop of alcohol.

If you do the above there is a good chance you will see relief in a very short time and then it will only get better as time goes by as long as you don't "fall off the wagon" so to speak with either of the 3 points.

Diet, supplements and zero alcohol.

That is the secret.

Total dedication to wellness.

Using My Pancreatitis Pain Regemin on Children

If it were my child with pancreatitis pain I'd use the regemin I use myself to stop the pain a try with some revisions.

1) You are not suppose to give young children aspirin so I'd check with my doc to find out how much Ibuprofen (motrin, advil) I could safely give him or her based on age and weight.

You might also check with a pharmacist to verify.

If you check out the link to Ibuprofen and scroll down to over dose you'll see the amount necessary to cause problems in humans.

Problems can arise at 100mgs/kg so adjust accordingly.

1 kilogram = 2.20462262 pounds.

2) Grape seed extract comes in capsules that most likely are difficult for young children to swallow so you'd want to break one open and add it to a clear juice, like maybe apple juice and have them drink it fron a sippy cup.

Now the dosage is another challenge and I would guess using the ONE milligram per pound of body weight guidline for optimum saturation a 10 pound child would only need 10 - 15 milligrams.

The problem lies in finding 10 or 15 milligram capsules.

Grape seed extract in powder form seems to be a viable solution however using something to weigh out the powder may be a challenge because normal cooking measuring spoons won't work.

3) Curcumin. Now for the last potential enigma - curcumin. There is a lot more research material available on curcumin than is able to be found on grapeseed, however, I was on grapeseed BEFOE curcumin and know it works.

The addition of curcumin simply added more re-inforcement.

From what I can find there isn't any toxcity associated with curcumin but I'd still cut the dosage down to at least half of what I personally consume and see what happens.

There would be nothing wrong with starting even lower say at 50 to 100 milligrams. You can always increase it in 50 milligram increments until your child finds relief.

I've never tried grapseed extract or curcumin without it being in a capsule. Turmeric I use a lot in my food and large amounts are not to palatable. A little tastes good but a lot is putrid so your child is NOT going to like the taste, so be patient. But, if it stops the pain for them the concoction may bring on a whole new flavor.

I haven't covered vitamin C because vitamin C is non toxic up to 10 grams. I know that to be absolutely true because I have consumed 10 grams (10,000mgs) per day for up to 30 days and I am still alive. High doses can cause diarrhea in some people.

Here's a list of Pancreatitis supplements

What To Do After Your Pancreatitis Pain Subsides

Ok so what do you do after the pancreatitis pain subsides?

Sleep.

If you are like me an attack of pancreatitis takes a lot out of you. The best thing to do is sleep for as long as needed.

Don't Eat.
If you are just coming out of an attack my best advise is to live on water for at least 48 hours. I would make sure to dose up on the grape seed extract and curcumin. And take a couple asprin or Ibuprofen.

If you get hungry tough, don't eat. It is imperative that you rest your pancreas for at least 48 - 72 hours, while making sure the flame of inflammation is totally extinguished.

After 48 hours, if you are really hungry, try sipping juice all day. Buy some vegetable juice like low sodium V8 or if you have a juicer make your own vegetable juice but ...

NO solid food.

After your pancreas has "rested" for at least 3 days and you have encountered NO symptoms for 72, preferrably 96 hours, on juices then, if you are hungry (your belly feels like it is against your back bone hunger) try a small meal of brown rice and vegetables.

I mean a SMALL meal, maybe half a cup.

If that goes well have another half a cup in an hour or two.

Eat SMALL meals 5 - 6 times per day, IF you are hungry, if you are NOT hungry - DO NOT eat. And ...

If at any time you begin to feel any symptoms STOP eating. And ...

Immediately take aspirin or Ibuprofen, grape seed extract (capsules) and curcumin (capsules) to stop the inflammation.

Then rest your pancreas as explained above.

I suggest you take grape seed extract, 200mgs or more if needed, along with 500mgs or more of curcumin and at least 1000mgs of Vit C on a daily basis.

The grapeseed, curcumin and VitC should become a daily routine. They fight inflammation and help heal your pancreas.

You can buy them all from any well stocked health food store.

You'll also need digestive enzymes with pancreatin 4X. So get them while you are at the health store as well and take them 15 - 20 minutes before EVERY meal. They help take the load of producing digestive enymes off your pancreas.

Remember - this is incredibly important.

If you do not feel well or you are not hungry DON'T EAT! In fact, even after you begin to feel half way normal again - if you are NOT hungry, don't eat! Repeat after me - "If I am NOT hungry I will not eat."

One more time!

"If I am NOT hungry I will not eat."

Ok, I guess that's it for today :-)

Oh, wait!

I forgot to tell you WHY you shouldn't eat if you are not hungry ...

Even if you have NOT had an attack, pain or nausea for some time but for some reason you are NOT hungry and I don't care if it's breakfast time, lunch time, supper time or what - DON'T EAT - unless you have bonafide hunger do NOT eat. And the reason is your pancreas is trying to tell you it doesn't want to work today.

LISTEN to your pancreas.

If you don't it is gonna get pissed off and you are gonna pay, I damn well guarantee it.

Here is a list of the pancreatitis supplements you should take if you want to become pain free and allow your pancreas to heal.
